Deaf and hard of hearing Creative Producer

We are recruiting a Deaf and hard of hearing artist with creative producer skills to lead, develop and run a creative project with Deaf and hard of hearing young people.
The artist will introduce the participants to the Climate Emergency and support them to take action. The project will use craftivism, (which is craft and activism together), craft techniques and making skills.
This is a paid freelance role. The fee is £7,500 (including VAT) for 25 days, that’s £300 per day including travel. The contract will run between December 2024 and September 2025. This is a freelance consultancy contract with Craftspace. The fees for this role are inclusive of VAT. You will need to hold your own public and products liability insurance for this role. Craftspace can help with this.
Within this role, you will:
- use your facilitation, creative and digital skills to connect with Deaf schools and/or organisations to identify a group of young people (16-25) as core participants
- lead, plan and run a project between December 2024 - September 2025
- devise activities introducing young participants to the Climate Emergency and uses craftivism (craft + activism) to explore positive actions
- enable Deaf and hard of hearing young people to have their voice heard about the Climate Emergency and to make choices about their own creative actions
- produce resources to support the project and to share with other Deaf and hard of hearing young people (e.g. zines, videos, banners)
- identify 1-2 young people within the group as project champions, and support them to develop their skills and ideas and share their work
- create and manage a social media campaign alongside the project
- run a final event at the end of the project to share the outcomes
- work with an evaluator to record stories of impact

How To Apply
To apply for this role, you need to be someone who:
- is an experienced Deaf and hard of hearing artist (ideally a BSL user) who has creative producer and project management skills.
- has experience of working creatively with young people.
- is able to work in Birmingham in-person.
- has a range of skills including digital ones. is engaged with the Climate Emergency.
- is interested in craft and activism.
- is interested in intersectionality. Intersectionality is the way that overlapping social identities (gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, religion etc.) can impact individual experience.

Once the deadline has passed, we will shortlist from the applications and invite 3-4 people to attend an in-person or online interview (a BSL interpreter will be provided). We plan to hold the interviews on Friday 29th November and the role will start with a planning meeting in early December.
