The new ‘Beyond the Music’ programme has been made possible by funding from The National Lottery Community Fund – Reaching Communities.
About Beyond the Music
The project aims to tackle the barriers Deaf and disabled
people face to volunteering and working in the music industry, both by providing
advice, guidance and training for music industry organisations around how to
create an accessible workplace culture and by supporting Deaf and disabled
people working or aspiring to work in the industry via the creation of a
Professionals Network and by brokering training, mentoring, shadowing and
skills development opportunities.
About the Intern Role
This
post is to enable an ambitious disabled person to gain paid experience of work in
a charity supporting access to live music, providing a next step towards
employment in the live music industry. It will serve the ambitions of our new
volunteering and skills development programme, Beyond the Music, supporting
accessible volunteering opportunities.
In order to apply you need to identify as one of the following:
- Deaf
- Disabled
- Having a long-term mental health condition
- Having a long-term physical health condition
- Neurodivergent
You do not have to identify as disabled to apply, as long as one of the above applies to you. However we would expect any candidate to work within our ethos of the social model of disability during the course of the role.

This role was originally conceived to support our work at festivals. Due to the uncertainty of the re-opening timetable, we have rewritten the role to support the project as a whole but we hope that onsite festival work can still be a key element of what you do in the role.
The role is funded for eleven weeks but we aim to be flexible if this timescale clashes with education or other areas of your life.
Salary: Pro-rata equivalent of £20.111 per year (which
works out at £386.75 per week or £11.05 per hour)
Hours: This post is planned to be full time for 35 hours a week for 11 weeks. However we are also open to reconfiguring the role to be part time to fit around existing commitments or access requirements.
The role will involve working at Latitude and Reading festivals and you will need to be free on the weekends of 22 – 24 July and 26 – 28 August. Time off in lieu is available for any hours worked outside of standard office hours. Please let us know before applying if these dates are not possible.
Holidays: Pro-rata of 26 days per year
Based: You can work from home, at our office in London NW1
or a combination of both!
