About this event

These workshops are aimed at people aged 18-25 who want to learn the basics of studio and professional photography, and are keen to develop different professional skills - to support a career in professional photography.

If you are interested in becoming a trainee on the next programme, this is the perfect opportunity to get a taster for some of the workshops, meet the team and ask lots of questions! You can find out more about The Photography Foundation and our core Training Programme here.


Workshop dates & subjects

Friday 27th May 10-3pm - Introduction to Studio Photography
In the first half of the workshop, you will work with filmmaker & photographer, Milo Van-Giap, who will introduce you to some basic kit and lighting techniques. During the second half of the workshop you will put what you have learnt into practice and experiment with a basic portrait set up for a portrait session!

Tuesday 21st June 10-5pm - Introduction to headshots & corporate photography
You will work with Keith Van Loen, who has decades of experience working as an architectural photographer. This workshop is designed to provide a masterclass on everything you would need to know to shoot a corporate portrait. Its hands on, and you will be setting up lighting, discussing white balance and demonstrating ideal poses. This skill set keeps money coming in on a regular basis and leads to other work - an ideal cash cow for every professional photographer.

Tuesday 12th July 10-5pm - Introduction to assisting & shadowing in photography
In this workshop, beauty photographer Chantel King will share her expertise, and years of experience as a studio assistant to help you find and keep getting work. In this workshop you will learn the key skills needed to succeed as a studio assistant. You will learn about assisting guidelines and fundamentals, how to work efficiently on set, dos and don'ts when assisting, how to find work as an assistant, and tips on how to kick start your own photography career.

What to expect
Each session will last the whole day with breaks throughout. We will provide light refreshments and there will be a lunch break too - please bring lunch or you can nip out to the shops nearby.

Each workshop is very practical, so please wear something comfy and practical.

There is a fee for these workshops, but if you feel unable to pay, please get in touch with us as we have bursary spaces available.

Accessibility notes

  • TPF Studio is on the second floor level, there are four flights of stairs. There is lift access to each floor.
  • The door to enter our building is 135cm wide. The door to enter the lift is 110cm wide. The doors to our office are 91cm wide. The doors to the toilets are 91cm wide.
  • We welcome wheelchair users and have volunteers to help with mobility
