Be a ‘make-it-happen maestro’ at Lovers ⚡️
About the opportunity
We’re looking for a kind, organised, exuberant collaborator to welcome into our full-time studio team: a ‘make-it-happen maestro’ to help bring the next wave of brand communication projects to life at Lovers, on time and on budget. We’ll help you grow as an admired, reliable, mid-level creative producer, collaborating across a spectrum of brand communication projects. You’ll be on the fizzy front line of project action, coordinating workflow across our three core offers: branding, campaigns and key comms, working with a super-interesting mix of clients like Greenpeace, My/Mochi Ice Cream and Nike. Take a look at our website for examples.
Lovers is a one-of-a-kind creative agency, built in a very special way to help brands sing. We have a small, passionate full-time team at our core, surrounded by an inspiring orchestra of freelance playmates, called in for projects based on whose eyes a brief lights up the brightest. Working in our supportive, guiding environment, this role is about working cleverly with your teammates to bring diverse, ambitious creative projects to life for brands – helping them stand out as unique in the world. Working under the guidance of our experienced production director, you’ll learn how to scope, plan, schedule, budget and manage projects the Lovers way, coordinating teams to deliver work using the rules and tools we’ve developed. You’ll need great communication skills, lots of initiative and a highly organised approach to work. Your secret weapon will be your smile, keeping clients and collaborators feeling energised each day.
This is a really special invitation for an ambitious person who wants to grow their collaborative powers, connections and project management skills, far beyond past experience. You’ll be shown the inner workings and methodology of our unique model and business, and invited to help propel it bravely forwards. You’ll be relied upon as a key Lovers representative, somebody our collaborators and clients genuinely enjoy working with.
Between creative projects for clients, you’ll also help curate extracurricular initiatives, including our play-space ‘Pillow Talk’, Lovers get-togethers, and other initiatives. You’ll help actively recruit new members into the group as well. Above all, you’ll learn how to collaborate fairly and gracefully. Something remarkably few creative companies are focused on properly teaching.
The role in detail
As creative producer it’s your job to support and coordinate your studio teammates in figuring out solutions to our projects, helping to organise collaborations, diaries, budgets, calls, briefings and other operational strands. You’ll help build project scopes and contracts, defining the promises we make to our clients, and then following through with delivery, clearly briefing everyone involved on what they need to do, when and how.
Our varied projects will immerse you in diverse and fascinating subjects. So far we’ve delved into theatre, art, dance, dating, death, sex, film, food, geology, shoes, education, music, child protection and environmental justice. This is always changing and growing, and you’ll actively help win our next round of projects too. Our work is really varied, with no two projects quite the same. You may find yourself working on brand identities, advertising campaigns, printed books, social media content, even spacial elements like signage and way finding, and more.
You’ll be given lots of responsibility and opportunity to develop, but you’ll always be surrounded by our experienced team, including our lovely, experienced production director Lisa, and Alex our founder and creative director. Friendly, nurturing people who want you to succeed.
You’ll have direct contact with clients and responsibility for helping them feel super-confident in you, Lovers, and the work we’re delivering. Here’s a list of specific things you’ll need to perform well in this role:
- Positive, can-do outlook. We use this every single day.
- Determination. We work hard, then go home on time.
- Perceptiveness. Noticing things, more keenly than most.
- Foresight. Thinking ahead to help projects run smoothly.
- Interrogating briefs. Digesting and unpacking challenges.
- Scoping projects. Forming ideas about how you want projects to run.
- Identifying collaborators. Figuring out who to bring on board.
- Brilliant briefing. Instructing your colleagues clearly and fairly.
- Bringing the best out of people. Help people do their best work.
- Building proposals. Designing and writing killer presentations.
- Making friends. Constantly, with clients, with collaborators.
- Communicating. Speaking and writing warmly and clearly.
- Professionalism. Being on point, on time, on budget.
- Pro-active Instinct. We’re often inventing and improvising.
- Cultural awareness. We’re sensitive to the world around us.
- Strategic interest. Strategy is something that interests you.
Here are some strands of experience you’ll need to draw and build upon:
- Organising project work. You’ve helped run projects on time, on budget.
- Briefing collaborators. You’ve instructed and involved people in your work before.
- Thinking for yourself. You’re got confidence as a self-starter.
- Explaining clearly. You’ve developed a knack for bringing clarity to situations.
- Multidisciplinary working. You’ve at least dipped your toe beyond a single discipline.
- Persuading people. You’ve had experience making people feel convinced by you.
- Navigating feedback. You can listen carefully, negotiating the best path forwards.
- Commissioning assets. For example; design, photography, illustrations, sound, film.
- Running shoots. Organising creative production ‘in the room’ where necessary.
We’ve deliberately written this job description to make sure it’s not asking you to ‘be’ any particular type of person, so if you feel you could do the job (or learn to do it) then please consider applying, whoever you are. Lovers is a place for all talented creative people, regardless of background. Here are some traits you might recognise in yourself:
You love it when a good plan comes together. Maybe friends and colleagues think of you as “the organised one” or just always really “on it!”. You blend strong people skills (you like working with others) with strong organisational ability (you like making things happen). You enjoy watching work develop into something great. You like details, and care about the little things as well as the big picture.
You’re a thoughtful person who puts effort into collaborating fairly and respectfully with those around you, something you want to be admired for. People like working with you. You love to learn and grow. You enjoy trying to achieve new things, breaking new ground.
In terms of experience, you’ve been organising and managing projects for a while (most likely a couple of years at least) and you’re ready to take that skillset to the next level, turning yourself into a flexible, reliable producer of creative projects. You want to work somewhere you can be supported to achieve amazing results for amazing clients. You’d also love to help a great company grow, helping a nice, creative business blossom. You love a challenge, and want to achieve big things.
We’re a supergroup of designers and creatives who want to work on projects that feel good, for organisations we respect (we’re on our way to becoming a B Corp). We want our industry to do less harm to the people in it and to the world around it, so we’re on a mission to build a new and different creative supergroup model and methodology geared towards making thoughtful, effortful creative work that feels great. This model combines a small central team with a diverse and inspiring collective of individuals with an array of talents, interests and personalities.
The work we make at Lovers is all about helping brands express themselves with great thought and effort, so they stand out and people love them. Our output is ultimately about identity, messaging and communication, with a twin emphasis on great ideas and great craft. We only help organisations we want to see thrive.
So far we’ve rebranded Alexandra Palace, the Royal Court theatre, Green Man Festival and other culture shapers. We’ve made award-winning animations for the NSPCC and TV commercials for Badoo and My/Mochi Ice Cream. We’ve designed international Greenpeace campaigns. We’ve designed social media campaigns for Nike. We’ve grown our collective from a handful to a few dozen brilliant people.
There’s not really an aesthetic style at Lovers, but there is a consistent ‘energy’ to the work. It’s hard to define but we think it’s something to do with ingredients like playful creative thinking, deep belief in creative processes, a reluctance to be dull, an appetite to engage people’s emotions and use words in interesting ways, and a loving care and attention towards craft details, with the occasional theatrical touch. We want you to add to this Lovers ‘way’, evolving and defining it with us.
