We are currently looking to recruit a Web Content Editor within Education Scotland, this is a great opportunity to join Education Scotland at an exciting time.

This role sits within our Online Content Team, with the main focus supporting work to improve and develop the Education Scotland web estate, based on the recommendations of the Transformation Programme.

The successful candidate will join a small team which maintains Education Scotland’s core websites – our corporate site, the National Improvement Hub (NIH), Parentzone Scotland and the Professional Learning and Leadership site.

This post has a salary range of £31,542 up to £36,129 with the expectation that all new entrants to the Scottish Government would come in on the entry-level salary. There are annual increments (eligibility after probation period and thereafter meeting performance criteria) that will allow for salary to incrementally increase up to the maximum amount for that band.


Responsibilities

  • Publishing content using the Umbraco content management system according to Education Scotland procedures;
  • Ensuring that web content complies with usability, accessibility and other Education Scotland standards;
  • Adding metadata to all content components following Education Scotland guidelines and taxonomies;
  • Locating and editing web links within a content management system;
  • Publishing webpages to make any updates live;
  • Checking broken links;

Transformation programme tasks include:

  • Transferring existing content to new wireframes;
  • Development of new ‘topic pages’: working with educational colleagues to identify content for the pages and then publishing that content;
  • Supporting an audit of the existing corporate site and National Improvement Hub.

What we are looking for

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working with a content management system (CMS) – including using HTML and search engine optimisation - to produce online content.
  • Excellent writing skills – including impeccable spelling and grammar.
  • Experience of developing and publishing web content using a user-centred design approach along with editorial accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to work autonomously and in a proactive manner.
