The Photography Foundation creates pathways to professional photography for less advantaged young adults in London through education, professional development and alternative routes to creative careers. For many young adults, a lack of financial resources, opportunities or industry connections mean that a career in photography is out of reach. We believe that talent and motivation should be more important than who you know or where you come from, and it's our mission to make this a reality.
We are looking for ambitious and self-motivated eligible young people to apply for our six-month professional photography trainee programme. Over the course of the programme, we aim to create a supportive and inspiring environment where you can master the basics of professional photography, develop a portfolio tailored to you career goals, and grow your independent voice, while gaining as much practical experience as you can. You can find out more about we what we offer on our website.
Who can apply:
To apply for the traineeship, you must be:
•Aged 18-25 when the programme starts
•Based in London throughout the programme
•From an underrepresented or less advantaged group
•Have a demonstrable interest in developing a career in photography, or a related creative profession
•Be a non-graduate
•From a household where the collective income is less than £25,000 per year.
What we are looking for:
In order to thrive on our programme, you will already have some practical experience of producing photography or similar media, and you’ll come with an idea of what you want to achieve to elevate your experience and career, whilst being open to growing and changing along the way. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to apply as the programme is intended to nurture your potential rather than expect you to have it all before you arrive. You will work well both independently and collaboratively to achieve goals, as well as manage your own time to achieve self–led outcomes. You will be motivated to succeed and make the most of the learning and opportunities on offer to you.
